The Heidelberg Project
Take a stroll down the polka-dotted street or bring a bike for your tour. The Heidelberg Project is an outdoor community art environment where recycled materials and objects from the city’s streets are turned into art. In 1986, local artist Tyree Guyton began the project in response to the decaying of the neighborhood he grew up in. Flash forward 30 years and this project is now a place where artists use their pieces to represent issues that matter to their community. From houses covered in dots and numbers, to decoratively painted cars, there is no shortage of things to see while you're here.

Detroit Eastern Market
Since the 1800s the Detroit Eastern Market has become a staple of the city, making it the place to be on Saturdays if you want an authentic urban adventure. Pick up the season's fresh fruits and vegetables or other handcrafted goods from more than 150 vendors during peak season, or make your way to the Gratiot Central Market for more meat, barbeque, and specialty choices than you could think of. Don't worry if you find yourself at the market between Sunday and Friday, they do open the market other days, and there are plenty of restaurants where you can grab a bite to eat while you're here.
