Enjoy the Culture of Memphis

Great food and an even better history

Memphis is more than the Blues and Barbecue, visit some of the locals' favorites spots while you’re in town.

Memphis’ Magical Museums

The Graceland Mansion is the ultimate Elvis experience that gives an inside look of the beloved home and life of the King of Rock ‘N Roll. You can take a tour through his Memphis home through an interactive iPad tour hosted by John Stamos, featuring commentary from Elvis and his daughter, Lisa Marie. During the tour of the home you’ll see the famous Jungle Room, Elvis’ room, the Racquetball building, the pool room, and more. You’ll get a chance to step aboard Elvis’s airplanes; one affectionately named after his daughter Lisa Marie, which included gold-plated seat-belts, leather-covered tables, and 24k gold-flecked sinks. The Entertainment Career Museum, Presley Motors Automobile Museum, and Elvis Discovery Exhibit are all included in your visit, so you’ll leave with the inside scoop, fun facts, exclusive photos, artifacts, and a view of his amazing gold and platinum record collection.

Address: Elvis Presley Blvd, Memphis TN 38116

While you’re out visiting the city, take a step back in history at the National Civil Rights Museum. The exhibits have over 40 films, 260 artifacts, interactive media, with over 5 centuries of history in one place. One of its most famous exhibits features the details of Dr. Martin Luther King’s last hours, which includes a tour inside of the Lorraine Motel where he was assassinated.

Address: 450 Mulberry St, Memphis TN 38103

The Memphis Rock 'N Soul Museum is a must see for music lovers. Making a stop here will include a lesson on the complete Memphis music history, which isn’t a surprise considering it’s located on the music-filled Beale Street. The museum’s mission is to continue to perpetuate the rich music history instilled in Memphis, and they even have educational PDF’s for all ages to study.

Address: 191 Beale St, Memphis, TN 38103

Unique Food Spots

Despite its name, the only thing that will get done while you’re under their hooded Belvedere hair dryers, will be whatever delectable dish you’ve selected off the menu. The Beauty Shop Restaurant is formerly Priscilla Presley’s beauty salon turned into a 1950s-nostalgic restaurant that wants you to “look good” and “eat good.” One of their famous dishes is the chicken wings and watermelon; although it’s an interesting combination, patrons can’t get enough of it. Not only are they famously known for dinner but their brunch is also a must try because of their unique spin on brunch favorites, such as the Beneduck, which will keep you wanting more.

Address: 966 Cooper St, Memphis, TN 38104

Visit the Four Way Restaurant when you’re looking for some authentic, down-home, southern soul food. Even though their fried chicken and daily turkey and dressing is something special, the restaurant holds its own piece of history. From the 1940s-1960s, this popular eating spot was also a safe place for civil rights activists to come and meet up. They have served some of America’s most famous freedom fighters such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Address: 998 Mississippi Blvd, Memphis, TN 38126

If you’re looking to have a nice meal that’s more on the exquisite side, that’s not too pricey, Restaurant Iris should be added to your to-do list. However, make sure you book reservations. The French-Creole restaurant is a little house that sits in the historic Overton Square of Midtown, owned by the award-winning Chef Kelly English. It has been named one of Memphis’ best restaurants, so it’s totally worth the try. Some of their dishes include the lobster “knuckle sandwich,” American Kobe short rib, grilled lamb loin, and more.

Address: 2146 Monroe Ave, Memphis, TN
