Cuban Culture without Crossing an Ocean

An oasis of heritage

Calle Ocho, or Eighth Street, is the heart of Miami’s Cuban community and is where the majority of the restaurants, Cuban coffee windows, cigar shops, and cultural activities are held. This street hosts festivals throughout the year and is busy daily with locals and tourists taking in all it has to offer.

Little Havana

Colorful murals, monuments to heroes past and present, men playing dominoes as they discuss politics, and cigar rollers deep at work amidst Little Havana's ever-present aroma of Cuban coffee. Little Havana permeates the Hispanic culture. These scenes of daily life play out amidst a backdrop of pulsating traditional Cuban and Afro-Cuban music, storefronts, unique art galleries, and quaint restaurants.

Maximo Gomez Park also known as "Domino Park" is the city’s unofficial spot for domino and chess lovers. Located in the heart of Little Havana the park has been the meeting spot for domino players to gather, drink coffee, and catch up with friends for over 35 years. No matter if you’re ready to jump in and play a game or just watch, this park is something to see.

Address: 801 SW 15th Ave, Miami, FL 33135

While in Little Havana, visit The Walkway of the Stars. Located between 12th and 17th Avenues, this Latin Walk of Fame pays tribute to stars who impacted culture, community, and traditions. Latin stars like Sammy Sosa, Maria Conchita Alonso, and Gloria Estefan all have their own star in the pavement.

Address: 1945 SW 8th St, Miami, FL 33135

Treats and Eats

After a hot day in Miami, cooling down with a scoop of ice cream is always a good idea. Making their ice cream just like Abuela did, the Azucar Ice Cream Company serves up fresh ice cream daily.

Address: 1503 SW 8th St, Miami, Florida 33135

Just because you’re surrounded by Latin culture doesn’t mean you’re destined to only eat Latin food while you’re here. Enjoy a host of fantastic eats on Calle Ocho, including places like Mr. Yum Asian Cuisine. This restaurant takes a different approach to Japanese and Thai food. They have dishes that add a bit of Cuban flavor to traditional dishes (you are in Little Havana after all) as well as more traditional options.

Address: 1945 SW 8th St, Miami, FL 33135

Viernes Culturales

If you just happen to be in Miami on the last Friday of each month, Little Havana hosts Viernes Culturales/Cultural Fridays. Anyone who likes live music, dancing under the stars, art galleries, domino games, cigar rollers, or local arts and crafts will be sure to enjoy this monthly celebration. So, whether you take part in a tango contest or sip on some Cuban coffee while perusing through the local art, Viernes Culturales is always a great Friday night out.

Address: 1637 SW 8th St, Miami, FL 33135
