Monica's Story
Exploring her Cuban roots in Key West, a popular immigration hub for Cuban Americans.
Why Greyhound?
Traveling by Greyhound gave me time to be on my own. To sit and think about my family, our history, how far we've traveled. I find it relaxing watching the scenery, it's almost like meditating. I wouldn't take this trip any other way.

Growing up, I was very close to my grandparents, especially my grandmother. Recently, my mother and I found some old photos and it brought up memories of her stories. She would always tell us about Key West and how it was important to our Cuban heritage. That's where they first immigrated to the United States. That's where our history began.
Today I'm traveling from Tampa to Key West. I really want to explore my family's history, their culture, and have some fun along the way. I love to travel, enjoy the scenery and the countryside. It's like meditating.
Key West has been incredible. It was fantastic to get in touch with my family history and to just relax and see the town. I met a lot of people, and got to explore the entire island. I met a cigar roller and he explained the process to me. That was really special because when my family first arrived to Key West they were cigar makers.
I was able to relax and have a great time in a place that has a lot of meaning to me. It was a really unforgettable trip. I'm sure I'll be back again.
