Eric's Story

A weekend-trip to Napa Valley, reuniting with his cousin and meeting the family for the first time.

Why Greyhound?

I used to take Greyhound a lot back in university. Believe it or not, I was afraid of flying. Although I can get on a plane now, I still like to take the bus - luckily it's actually the best way for me to get up to see my cousin up north in Napa.

Eric: As I've gotten older I've realized how important family is. I grew up in South Central. My family's almost been in Los Angeles for a hundred years. It really is home. Growing up with your entire family in one place you have lots of cousins. It was more like they were brothers and sisters. I want to take this trip to see my cousin. To let him know how he's impacted me and my views and who I am today as a person. I miss him and I want to reconnect with him.

Steven: Wow, I haven't talked to him. I haven't seen him. I used to talk to this man every day on the phone. I mean, it was like that. All that was gone and I hadn't realized it.
Y'know, I miss him.

Eric: I'm really looking forward to seeing my cousin's life in Napa and meeting his wife and his children for the first time.

Steven: I saw him for the first time in years. That's huge.

Eric: Seeing Steven here with his children is something that I'll cherish for the rest of my life.

Steven: We still had that closeness. You know what I mean. It was always there. Right now my kids are growing up not really being around a lot of family. So having him here? More than you guys can imagine.

Eric: Seeing where he works, where he lives, the father and husband that he's grown into was incredible. And I'm really excited just to be a part of his life again.
