Music, Food, and Culture in Providence

Map of Providence

Not to mention beautiful sites

You can, of course, visit the state capitol building of Rhode Island while in Providence, but why stop there? The city is teeming with music, food, and so many things to see, you may want to extend your trip.

  1. College Hill

    ""

Brown University is the crown on the top of College Hill. Founded in 1764, this Ivy League school is the seventh-oldest higher education institute in the country. Stroll down the stacks of John Hay Library, learn something about culture at the Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology, or take in some art at the Annmary Brown Memorial.

Not too far from Brown is the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design. You can see awe-worthy works of art at the RISD Museum, plus the museum is free on Sundays! If you happen to be visiting on the weekend, you can also peruse a craft fair on the campus.
  2. Federal Hill

    ""

Federal Hill is where to go for a little slice of Italy in the middle of Providence. A good place to start is Atwells Avenue. Go to Siena for an upscale, Northern Italy experience or Trattoria Zooma for Southern Italy-inspired handmade pasta and wood-fired pizza. You can even catch a picturesque, gondola ride down the river!

Make sure to visit DePasquale Square. With outdoor seating around it’s famous fountain, you can enjoy great food and live music when the weather is nice. Providence Oyster Bar offers the freshest seafood you can ask for or you can grab an espresso or glass of wine at Caffe Dolce Vita.
  3. Downtown Providence

    ""

Head to Downtown Providence for a night of music. The Providence Performing Arts Center is one of the most beautiful buildings you will see on your trip. Built in the 1920s, this ornate theatre hosts touring Broadway shows, plays, and other performances. Want to see some of the best pop, rock, or blues acts around? Go to The Strand Ballroom for a live concert experience you won’t forget.

Music isn’t all you can enjoy in Downtown Providence. You can see all sorts of sporting events at the Dunkin Donuts Center. Hockey, figure skating, college basketball, and more, there is sure to be a team playing for you to cheer on. The Rhode Island Convention Center might also have a seminar, expo, or festival you may be interested in checking out too.
