DALLAS (Feb. 24, 2016) — Greyhound today announced it has expanded service in Florida along its major routes, including Orlando to Miami, Jacksonville to Miami and Tampa to Miami, serving many rural cities along each route. A portion of the expanded routes, between Hollywood and Miami, have stops at Tri-Rail stations, providing customers with seamless connectivity with other modes of transportation. In partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation, this expansion was established in response to the demand to provide access from smaller markets to major cities in Florida.
Beginning today, customers will be able to travel along the following routes:
Orlando – Titusville – Melbourne – Fort Pierce – Miami
Jacksonville – St. Augustine – Ormand Beach - Port St. Lucie – Miami
Tampa – Lakeland – Avon Park – Winter Haven – Belle – Miami
“We’re excited to provide a service that allows customers to experience a safe, affordable and convenient travel option,” said Emma Gray, district manager, Greyhound Lines, Inc. “With the assistance of FDOT we’re able to connect rural Florida communities to larger cities, ultimately providing access to Greyhound’s extensive network of more than 3,800 destinations for the first time. We’ve seen an increase in demand for service within these communities, and we’re pleased to help meet the demand.”
The new routes are funded through FDOT’s Federal Transit Administration 5311(f) program, which is designed to provide viable transportation options for residents in rural communities. With this grant, Greyhound will receive new 24-passenger buses, along with new larger 50-passenger buses, which include premium amenities, such as free onboard Wi-Fi, power outlets, leather seats and extra legroom for customers to enjoy.
