Greyhound Lines, Inc. recently contributed $3,000 to the Genesis Women’s Shelter in Dallas, Texas, to underwrite the organization’s transportation costs. The funds will be used to assist Genesis clients with various transportation needs.
"Victims of domestic violence face many roadblocks as they attempt to flee abusive homes," said Jan Langbein, executive director, Genesis Women's Shelter. "Any one of these roadblocks can mean defeat. The need for transportation is one of the greatest challenges facing a survivor — transportation to work, to daycare, to court and other places. Greyhound has recognized this need and has made possible for Genesis to fund the costs of public transportation for our clients. Greyhound is truly a model of corporate community giving."
In addition to the cash donation, Greyhound also adopted Genesis during the recent holiday season. Employees from the Greyhound corporate offices in Dallas, donated new toys, clothes, household items and gift certificates for the residents at Genesis.
Genesis Women’s Shelter serves more than 750 women and children who are forced to seek refuge from violent homes each year. For more information on Genesis call 214-942-2998 or visit genesis.org.
